I get asked all the time how I managed to build such a large following. I told them I used social media to help get traffic to my site. Then I get the blank stare… huh? I say to them “What’s the point of having a website if no one bothers to visit right?” So I’ll save you the trouble and list some of the basics you’ll need to know before deciding to launch your website for your business.

When planning on building an online identity you need to have laid a visible foundation. In today’s online world which entails having not only your website but a LinkedIn profile; a Facebook page, and the very useful Twitter page.

Your website doesn’t have to be overly elaborate, but should contain some important elements. First, you need an about page. This tells the world who you are. Take time in crafting this page as it is one of the most neglected pages on most sites. This is where you sell you company. Secondly, make a contact page. People want to see that there are real people behind the page. Not simply some mystery men. This is followed by a customer service page, a products page, and lastly a testimonial page.

Facebook is huge with half a million users every day. It allows you to promote your website to your friends and family and allows you all the same functions as a basic website with interactivity. You can share and promote products, feature polls etc. It’s a great way to gauge your products and company and to engage your new clients and friends.

Twitter is an extremely useful and very popular website that allows you to promote your site or products in “Tweets” in 140 characters or less. Trust me, I didn’t get Twitter then it first started. But have learned to harness the power of reaching thousands of people at any given moment with links people back to my site. It’s perhaps my biggest traffic generator.

LinkedIn is in essence a social media site for businesses and professionals. It is essential for any serious professional or entrepreneur as you to be listed there. This is how you build your online professional network, and find similar people who may be able to assist your growth and perhaps give you new ideas.

Now the trick is to use them all simultaneously. Like myself who writes a blog, I have my articles sent to all of these sites each time a new blog is written. It guarantees my online “presence” and ensures that someone is reading my work. Thus promoting my core values, and promoting my business.

It takes work. Don’t expect to simply create a site and sign up for these social sites and expect to magically have 100,000 people a month flood to your website. But thankfully it’s not difficult. If you have your company and product information planned out it should take you only a few hours to have everything in place. Ensuring you have a valuable product and information, and armed with the proper tools, you can ensure your companies online success Click Here for more information.
